Flowcrete UK Wins Large at the FeRFA 2017 Awards

21 Nov 2017

  • Flowcrete UK wins the Large Commercial Project of the Year Award at the FeRFA Awards 2017.
  • Sandbach based resin flooring manufacturer also Highly Commended in the Large Industrial Project of the Year category.
  • Flowcrete UK won for a refurbishment project at St Fagans National History Museum.

The resin flooring manufacturer Flowcrete UK has won the Large Commercial Project of the Year Award at FeRFA’s 2017 Awards ceremony, which took place on Friday November 17th at the Belfry Hotel.

FeRFA, the Resin Flooring Association, represents the major organisations and businesses in the resin flooring field and its awards event celebrates the best of the industry’s achievements over the past year.

On the night, which was hosted by comedian Jo Caulfield, Flowcrete UK won the Large Commercial Project of the Year Award with contractors TPS360 for an exciting flooring redevelopment at St Fagans National History Museum.

The Sandbach, Cheshire, based company was also Highly Commended in the Large Industrial Project of the Year category along with contractors Central Flooring Services for an installation at the Royal Mail’s sorting depot in Atherstone.

Flowcrete UK’s Managing Director, Kevin Potter, said: “We’re very proud to have won this year’s Large Commercial Project award and to have done so well in the Large Industrial Project class as well. We faced stiff competition in both categories and coming away with these accolades represents a lot of hard work and commitment from across the Flowcrete UK team and from our applicator partners.

“Both of these projects were excellent examples of the challenges that can be overcome and the quality that can be accomplished through the combination of highly experienced applicator teams and Flowcrete UK’s specialist flooring systems.”

The St Fagans National History Museum installation, for which the coveted award was won, shows how the right floor can inject new life and vibrancy into a building. Undertaken as part of a £30 million transformation of the site, 542 m2 of Mondéco Mirrazzo was applied to create a decorative yet hardwearing finish in the museum’s main entrance and across a suspended walkway.

The seamless resin terrazzo system is ideal for creating elegant, luxurious flooring that is able to maintain its aesthetics despite heavy foot traffic, frequent cleaning as well as the scuffs, scrapes and spills of a busy visitor attraction.

Similarly, the flooring application at the Royal Mail’s Atherstone depot showcased the ability of modern systems and installation practises to provide floors that will not only meet difficult operational criteria but which can do so in an environmentally friendly manner.

The four-week project had to create a floor that would provide a reliable, high-end surface for an extended period of time, and do so while adhering to very strict environmental standards. To achieve this 10,000 m2 of failing bitumen flooring was taken up, 286 tonnes of which was recycled, and it was replaced with the 10 mm flowable industrial screed, Flowscreed Industrial Top, thanks to its longevity and the fact that 38% of the robust floor coating stems from recycled material.

During the 2017 awards ceremony winners were announced for five categories in total, including: Small Industrial Project of the Year, Small Commercial Project of the Year, Large Industrial Project of the Year, Large Commercial Project of the Year, and Specialist Apprentice.
