With a rich history for adding a touch of elegance and glamour to commercial buildings, Flowcrete has once again left its unmistakable flooring mark with the recent refurbishment of the luxurious W Edinburgh.
The Project
Conveniently located within the historic capital of Scotland, it offers easy access to the cultural abundance that Edinburgh has to offer. From spectacular dining and socialising experiences to distinctive rooms and suites where to lay your head, W Edinburgh promises to provide their guests with a stylish, unforgettable stay.
In order to create a lasting impression in the heart of soul of those who encounter a luxury establishment, it is no secret that special consideration should be given to the floor areas. Specialist flooring installers, Ancorite Surface Protection, understand this all too well, and therefore, naturally looked towards Flowcrete’s range of seamless terrazzo flooring solutions to achieve the desired effect. Owing to their longstanding relationship of over 20 years, Ancorite selected products from Flowcrete’s range. The floor features an intricate matrix of brass inlays that brings the architectural concept to life and fits with the overall elliptical theme of the building.
The Solution
When it comes to beauty and performance in flooring, Flowcrete’s Mondeco Seamless Terrazzo range provides a timeless and unique finish that, if cared for properly, will last the lifetime of the building. Originating from the halcyon days of Ancient Rome, terrazzo flooring has a reputation for exuding airs of grace and sophistication, which, through Flowcrete’s Mondeco, has glittered the world’s floors in many different installation environments for more than 40 years. This serves as testament to its flexible design and vibrant, hardwearing characteristics.
Owing to its time-honoured reputation within the high-end commercial sector, two variants of Mondeco were selected for installation at W Edinburgh, each to cover a different level throughout the hotel, equating to approximately 800m². Mondeco Arctic’s iconic snow colour delivers the wow-factor underfoot through its attractive design and minimalist clean aesthetic for the luxury spa reception and corridors.
A unique epoxy membrane underlay was also incorporated to ensure crack protection on multi-level constructions.
This elegant epoxy resin floor finish encompasses a mix of white binder and a blend of light-coloured aggregates to create a neutral yet bright effect. Boasting low maintenance and superior resistance to UV light, Mondeco Arctic can be installed at 8-10mm nominal thickness, in a variety of complex patterns and precision cut forms to meet your specification.
Also installed at the W Edinburgh project was Mondeco Romantico, which is a delightfully captivating terrazzo floor finish that comprises a beautiful blend of marble chippings. This resin flooring solution is laid at 12mm nominal thickness and offers superior UV stability to create a durable yet elegant finish. Ideal for use in areas with high levels of sustained pedestrian traffic, such as hotel environments, Mondeco Romantico was used in the main lounge and bar areas on Level 11 of the hotel which offer spectacular panoramic views across the city.
The Result
The result of the installation of Flowcrete’s leading Mondeco Seamless Terrazzo range has created a dazzling floor finish at W Edinburgh, which is very much in-keeping with the hotel’s new look and feel.
