The Project
The Stockport Exchange Multi-Storey Car Park project involved the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-storey car park in the heart of Stockport city centre. The car park forms part of the third phase of the £145 million flagship development scheme which included a 64,000 sq ft Grade A office building featuring a stunning communal roof terrace.
With four storeys and a capacity for 400 vehicles, this project spanned 2,785 square meters, spread across two levels - the roof level and areas situated over occupied premises accentuated by a green wall façade. The car park was designed to address the increasing demand for parking spaces in the city and provide convenient access to the various establishments in the vicinity, contributing to inner-city mobility and accessibility.
Galliford Try were subcontracted by a popular developer for this project, and they played a pivotal role in its successful execution. They were chosen based on their expertise and experience. Flowcrete’s Deckshield Rapide ED1 waterproofing system was chosen after Floor + Wall, one of our longest serving authorised contractors engaged with the client early in the design process, its high-performance qualities were key to the project. The installation of Deckshield Rapide ED1 system took approximately three weeks to complete, demonstrating the efficiency and vast experience of the installers, Floor + Wall.

The Waterproofing System Solution
Deckshield Rapide ED1 is a flexible, fast cure methyl methacrylate (MMA) top deck waterproofing system that offers very good elastomeric crack bridging properties. It ensures a durable and resilient flooring solution that can withstand the demands of a high-traffic environment as well as provide waterproofing protection to the car park.
Deckshield Rapide ED1 also comes in a variety of colours and its aesthetic attributes complemented the overall design of the multi-storey car park, contributing to an appealing and welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Tested and independently certified to OS11a and EN 1504-2, Deckshield Rapide ED1 is slip resistant, offering a positively textured anti-slip surface which minimises slip and skid risks. It is also chemical resistant which means the deck is protected against diesel, fuel, antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, chlorides and battery acid.

The collaboration between all the parties involved resulted in efficient installation of Flowcrete’s Deckshield Rapide ED1 System to address the city's multi-story car parking demands while contributing to the flagship development. As part of the transport interchange hub, this high-profile project played a crucial role in enhancing the city's infrastructure, promoting accessibility, and supporting local businesses.
