The Project
As part of ongoing investments into STEM facilities, Kingston University’s Roehampton Vale Campus recently undertook a refurbishment of its Robotics Lab to support cutting-edge research and education. The project required a flooring solution that could deliver high-performance durability in operational zones, while also offering comfort and aesthetic value in areas frequented by staff and students.
Flowcrete worked in close partnership with architects Pascall & Watson, main contractor Russell Cawberry, and specialist flooring installer Surtech Ltd to design and deliver a bespoke flooring package tailored to the environment’s needs.

The Solution
Two Flowcrete systems were specified to meet the project’s performance and visual demands:
Industrial Top was installed in workshop and research zones, delivering a hardwearing cementitious surface designed to withstand heavy foot traffic, machinery, and equipment typical in advanced academic and research environments. Frequently used in university labs, technical workshops, and engineering training centres, this system provides a durable base with strong mechanical properties and chemical resistance. It can also be used in conjunction with Flowcrete resin toppings for improved aesthetics and performance.
Peran Comfort, a flexible, polyurethane resin system, was specified for the workshop and research zones. Its smooth finish and underfoot comfort make it especially suitable for educational settings, and other environments that balance foot traffic with visual appeal.
Both products were used in the same space with the Industrial Top being used on the existing substrate beneath the Peran Comfort to provide a suitable substrate for the resin.
Results
Flowcrete’s combination of Flowscreed Industrial Top and Peran Comfort proved ideal for the Robotics Lab refurbishment. The result is a visually clean, technically robust, and user-friendly floor that supports the university’s mission to offer world-class engineering and robotics education.
The project showcases Flowcrete’s ability to supply fully integrated resin flooring systems that combine durability, design, and comfort in education and innovation-led spaces.
