Flowcrete Floor for Glasgow’s Small Animal Hospital

Flowcrete has been involved in a state-of-the-art flooring project at a pioneering new centre for veterinary medicine located within the grounds of the University of Glasgow. Designed by Archial Architects, the new £10m hospital, which began construction in October 2007, is set to provide students, practising vets and staff with unrivalled facilities to meet advanced levels of care for future patients and their owners.

Following extensive testing of large flooring sample boards provided by Flowcrete to see how the materials would stand up to the daily rigours of animal healthcare, 3,000 sq metres of Flowcrete’s fast-track MMA resin flooring system, Flowfast, was specified by the new clinic for works at the site.

Demonstrating better life-cycle costs as well as short-term cost-effectiveness, Flowfast Terrosso was chosen over traditional tile and vinyl finishes for installation in the new facility’s entrance foyer, waiting area and consulting rooms as well as all treatment, diagnostic, operating and ward areas on the ground floor.

Flowfast Terrosso is a decorative flooring system that uses varying sizes of flakes in a creative mix of colours to create a striking floor finish underfoot. In addition, Flowfast Terrosso offers an adjustable anti-slip profile, delivers a joint-free hygienic finish and can be applied over ‘green’ concrete to deliver a ready-to-use floor finish under a quick turnaround. Flowcrete’s Flowfast Quartz – which uses colourful quartz aggregates – was also used in the clinic’s reception area to create a decorative contrast to the Flowfast Terrosso.

Work at the site also included the installation of 3,000 sq metres of Flowcrete’s semi-dry cementitious floor screed, Isocrete K-Screed, which was laid over an underfloor heating system in certain areas, to smooth out the surface of the floor prior to the installation of final floor finishes.
