Flowcoat SF41 Puts Encore Packaging on the Right Path

The state-of-the-art printing and packaging specialist Encore Packaging Solutions, part of the Encore Group, installed a colourful, high performance floor from Flowcrete UK in its large printing facility.

The new floor needed to not only support the building’s operational activity but it would have to maintain its aesthetic appeal despite the onsite challenges which would include heavy equipment, impacts, wear and tear from light pallet trucks and foot traffic, point loading and more. The floor would also play an important navigational role, highlighting working areas, pedestrian routes and storage zones.

To achieve this the epoxy resin coating Flowcoat SF41 was applied across the packaging facility’s 4,300 m2 floor area in a variety of vibrant colours. A sleek, light grey tone was chosen for the main floor area with bright red used to mark out the safe routes, making sure that these pathways are clearly visible at all times to anyone on site. Black and white cross hatching as well as black and yellow cross hatching was applied to draw attention to specific hazards while crisp white line marking was used to border the colours and differentiate the various floor areas.

The flooring installation was completed over 11 days, with the applicator team working weekends and evenings to minimise any disruption to Encore’s operations. It was imperative that the application met this strict deadline so that the site’s packaging work could continue at full pace as soon as possible.

Prior to the resin coating going down, the floor’s substrate had to be prepped using captive shot blasting followed by a diamond grind to ensure that the epoxy would bond effectively to the underlying concrete.
