Located in the heart of London, the new BREEAM rated building covers 3.2 acres and provides approximately 1.1 million square feet of sustainable office space as well as three public areas, a retail arcade and a special cultural hub that will reflect the site’s Ancient Roman history.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the new building would have to deliver a modern and reliable working environment for Bloomberg’s 4,000 London-based employees as well as cope with the footfall and wear from large numbers of visitors heading to the public areas. This meant that each part of the large-scale facility had to be up to the task of running busy and complex operations on a daily basis.
To achieve this, in the back of house areas a number of specialist flooring solutions were applied. This included approximately 8,500 m2 of Flowcrete UK’s Deckshield range of specialist deck coating materials. 2,000 m2 of Deckshield HD and 6,000 m2 of Deckshield ID was used to create a robust floor throughout the loading bay.
The Deckshield range is the ideal choice for any development that needs to withstand conditions such as traffic from large vehicles, point loading from heavy equipment, exposure to automotive oils and physical impacts.
4,500 m2 of Flowcoat LXP was also applied in a number of maintenance spaces, such as the plant rooms, corridors, hardware server rooms and bicycle stores. Flowcoat LXP is a two-component solvent free and flexible coloured polyurethane-based floor coating. This self-smoothing product can be used on concrete, steel and asphalt surfaces and is ideal for situations where a flexible coating is required that can cope with light to medium duty industrial activity.
Flowcoat LXP was also used as part of a waterproof system above the server areas to protect the sensitive electrical components in these rooms from potentially damaging moisture issues.
